im building a workbench, and was wanting to use a 4x8 sheet of something, but are unsure of what type of wood to use.

Is there a safe way to remove the grease and oil out of the top of my wooden workbench?

Hay Ya, I built a workbench which has osb on it.Can you recommend something to go on it so the osb isn't flaking off pieces of wood.If you know osb you know what I mean.I thought of polyurethane but wasn't sure if it's right Thanks...

with a coat of polyurathane? I feel since its resin and sawdust that it would not be very strong...any ideas?

Hey I'm going to be building a workbench for my workshop...and I'm debating on the top of the workbench...tell me if this is a good idea... I was thinking about gluing together 3/4" plywood to 3/4" MDF to make my top...I have been told that MDF has to be sealed....Is it necessary to seal it? Also do you have to buy special screws for MDF? Feel free to offer other options

Has anyone ever used Ikea kitchen furniture to create a workspace in the basement/garage? My plan is to use two kitchen cabinets for tool storage and put wooden butcher block on top (about 70") to use as workbench. Plus I'll get a clothing closet (with shelves and drawers) to keep rest of the tools and stuff hidden and organized. Plan to use 10" drill press and miter saw on the counter top, plus misc hammering etc. And there'll be a perforated tool board on the wall behind counter top. Is there any obvious problem with my plan? :)

Why is it better to hold the hammer with the handle down rather than with the head down?

I bought some 1" MDF (1" actual thickness) for a workbench top. The size is 28" by 8' long. I put a 2x4 support (with legs) at 4'. Is this going to hold up over time? Do I need to add some plywood or additional bracing underneath? BTW, I do plan on installing a 50lb. vise on this workbench. Also, what can I use to seal it? Any relevant advice or experiences would be helpful. Thanks!
